A.A. Gewoni created this sculpture of the poetHenry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1908 for the Longfellow Gardens. In 1934 R.F. Jones, owner of the Longfellow Gardens, gave the land and the statue to the nearby Minnehaha Park.

The statue is located across Hiawatha Ave./Highway 55 from Minnehaha Falls, part way down a hill in an empty, grassy field. From the falls you have to go northwest, up a set of stairs past the Longfellow House, across a promenade that’s actually over the highway, and then down a hill towards Minnehaha Creek.

The weathered statue is missing its nose and both hands.
