This 1977 mural by Alvin Carter is one of the oldest surviving murals in the area and even survived the recent reconstruction of the Jimmy Lee Recreation Center.

This 1997 mural by Alvin Carter is painted on the side of a garage next to the old Dale Street Greenhouse. The greenhouse has since been torn down and the remaining building converted into a community center. But the garage and the mural still stand (at least for now).

Created by Calvin Carter in 1996, this untitled mural is just off Selby Avenue in St. Paul. The features are sharp and striking and there’s something very resolute about that woman’s face. There’s a certain power there.

This mural was commissioned by African American Family Services and was created by Calvin Carter, Leroy Kyles and Kendall Bohn. It celebrates the black community in St. Paul, showing a diverse range of leadership positions and occupations–”Regular folks making a better community.”
