The Lowertown Children’s Park at the corner of Sibley and 4th Streets in downtown St. Paul sports a sculpture of a waterfall coming out of a window and a giant pencil and paintbrush marking up the wall. It makes for a pretty cool backdrop for a playground that features a steamboat and a train.

Two different metals — the dark copper and the light aluminum — come together to support one another and stand tall. Wow. That’s kind of lame. It just seems too easy, too predictable and too far from reality. Even in the multicultural Midtown Global Market on Lake Street in Minneapolis.
