Created by Mark di Suvero between 1977 and 1982, Arikidea is 26 feet high and weighs more than three tons. The giant steel beems also sway in the breeze and anyone can swing on the wooden platform beneath the sculpture.

“Inner Search” in downtown Minneapolis is another example of a Mark di Suvero work involving movement and large metal beams. This 1979 work features a swinging “eye” that’s supposedly inspired by imagery found on the one dollar bill.

Mark di Suvero often uses large, metal I-beams in his abstract work, often with elements that swing or move. “Grace a Toi” in the Western Sculpture Park in St. Paul is no different. The massive work sits in the middle of the park, one of the large pieces near the top moving in the wind. Which is kind of an eerie feeling when you’re walking under it.
