At the end of 13th Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis is the outdoor studio and sculptural storage area of Zoran Mojsilov. Less a traditional studio space and more an abandoned patch of asphalt, Mojsilov’s work space is the far corner of the old Grain Belt Bottling House parking lot within a stone’s throw of the Mississippi River. Local sculptor Zoran Mojsilov created “Zoomorphy” for the East Lake Library in Minneapolis in 2007. The 26,000-pound sculpture sits in a rain garden next to the library, inviting the curious interaction of library visitors:

“Children react spontaneously and physically to my stone installations,” said Mojsilov. “Touching the stone, feeling its temperature changes and seeing it nestled in plantings creates a comfortable setting for families. Children can interact with the project while looking at it from inside the library (guessing what it is) or outside (sitting down and touching the contours of the stone).”

“Lazy Boy” is a part of the Camden Gateway project in Minneapolis offering less than cozy seating to passing pedestrians. Local artist Zoran Mojsilov created the large stone sculpture that resembles an overstuffed chair.

Local artist Zoran Mojsilov created “Saturn” in 1996. It’s effectively the centerpiece of the Camden Gateway project in Minneapolis. Located at the corner of Lyndale and 41st Avenues, it draws people into the sculpture park that stretches along Lyndale up to 42nd Avenue and includes several works by Mojsilov.

The seven stones that make up the rings of Saturn represent the surrounding neighborhoods.

“Miriam’s Bench,” created by Minneapolis artist Zoran Mojsilov, is part of the Camden Gateway project. It’s located along Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis, next to I-94.

Local artist Zoran Mojsilov created “Foot Bridge” in 1996 for the Camden Gateway project, a sculpture park located along Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis, next to I-94. The piece is quite literally a foot bridge, with rectangular pieces of granite stacked on round boulders creating a playful yet ancient bridge.

“Monolith,” by local artist Zoran Mojsilov, is another sculpture in the Camden Gateway project in Minneapolis. It’s located along Lyndale Avenue next to I-94 and was created in 1995.

Artist Zoran Mojsilov created “Broken Heart” as part of the Camden Gateway project in 1996. This piece is one of several in a small sculpture park along Lyndale Avenue next to I-94 in north Minneapolis.

I think this is one of the most visually and symbolically interesting pieces in the Camden Gateway project. The heart of stone broken in two and yet still connected with steel cables–it’s either being torn asunder or held together.

Sculptor Zoran Mojsilov created “Montenegro” in 2001. The work is currently on display at the Bethesda Therapeutic Sculpture Garden (a few blocks north of the State Capitol in St. Paul), on loan from the artist and in partnership with Franconia Sculpture Park.

Like much of Mojsilov’s work, this piece features stone supported by metal, in this case metal poles supporting large stones. They almost look like stone and metal mushrooms, or collectively like a shrub.

Local artist Zoran Mojsilov created “Napoleon” in 2000 for the Kirchbak Sculpture Garden in Richfield, Minn. I’ve really enjoyed Mojsilvo’s other work, especially “The Watcher”, but I’m just not seeing this one. It’s a stack of rocks.
