Lake Plaza Mural by Alejandro Trujillo, Gustavo Lira & Others

A mural on the Lake Plaza building at 5th Avenue S. and E. Lake Street in Minneapolis by a team of artists lead by Alejandro Trujillo. The team included Wayne Grimsrud, Sarah Stone, Americo Juan, Karlee Mariel Felger and Gustavo Lira. The mural was completed in the summer of 2003 but ran into some unrelated legal issues with the property owner and was never completed.

The same crew of artists also did interior work at the same building, including a ceiling mural and vendor signs.

  1. Retro Vertigo Says:

A little background on this one: The majority of this mural was painted by the ArTrujillo crew — Wayne Grimsrud, Sarah Stone, Americo Juan, Karlee Mariel Felger, Gustavo Lira and Alejandro Trujillo in summer of 2003. It is roughly 80′ long and over 20′ tall. Due to some unrelated legal issues with property owner, this mural was deemed indefinitely “in-progress”. In addition to the incomplete Mexican market scene, there was another 80′ to the design representing the Somali community that never actually made it to the wall.

Inside that same mall – the gorgeous ceiling mural, all of the the vendor signs and all of the other hand-painted elements – were also done by various individuals from this same crew.

There are photos of that project in progress available (as well as some other ArTrujillo related projects from that area). Feel free to contact me if you’re interested in them.
