Costa Rican artist Guillermo Hernandez was invited to contribute a work of art to the Kirchbak Sculpture Garden in Richfield to honor the Friendship City relationship between Richfield, Minn., and Heredia, Costa Rica. All the other artwork in the Kirchbak Sculpture Garden was created by Minnesota artists.

Hernandez’s sculpture, “Allianza,” features “a female figure clad in huge coffee leaves. Barefoot to express humility toward other cultures, the bronze is topped by a dove to signify peace” (You Are Here: Exploring Art in the Suburbs).

What’s a bit bizarre is that the plaque in front of the piece says it’s called Heredia, not Allianza.
