Marty Kirsch served as the mayor of Richfield, Minn. from 1990-2006, but his legacy continues in art. Jane Frees-Kluth immortalized the former mayor in bronze in 2007 and he sits on a bench near the corner of 66th and Lyndale as part of the Kirchbak Sculpture Garden.

It’s a joyfully human and interactive sculpture, the kind that invites you to sit down next to the bronze mayor and have a chat. The sculpture has also prompted locals to dress the sculpture for the seasons, from hats with ear flaps to hockey jerseys to centennial T-shirts. Every city needs a good old man on a bench sculpture.
