Chinese artist Lei Yixin created “Meditation” in 2006 as a part of the Minnesota Rocks! International Stone Carving Symposium. The work features the face of an Asian woman and has an interesting cropping to it (you can see her hands around her face, but nothing more).
During the 2008 Dragon Festival celebrating Asian culture the 10,600-pound sculpture was defaced with hate-filled racial graffiti. The sculpture was cleaned and restored ahead of schedule in August. Read more about the restoration process and healing ceremony.
