Return Journey by Randy Walker
Artist Randy Walker created this work of art out of a piece of playground equipment from 1962. The original Brackett Rocket was a slide and climbing structure in Brackett Park, originally installed in 1962 and taken down in 2004 for park renovations. A grass-roots effort transformed the playground equipment into a public art icon.
Now the 25-foot-tall rocket is taking off an 80-degree angle, reaching a current height of 40 feet. It’s exciting to see what countless children have imagined actually coming to pass as the rocket appears to lift off.
