British artist David Nash created “Standing Frame” for the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in 1987. Nash is known for making sculptures from trees and using them as efficiently as possible, including turning twigs and scraps into charcoal for his drawings. He also only uses fallen trees or cuts mature trees to open up space for new growth.

He created “Standing Frame” from two white oaks found near Taylors Falls, Minn., making it an environmentally low-impact, local creation.

Using the work to frame bits of the skyline or other works in the sculpture garden makes it a unique piece, turning the frame into the real work of art.
