Artist Arnold Hillis created “The Cross of Mercy” in 1960, which hangs on the upper wall of St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul. The cross is engraved with scenes of mercy. The horizontal beam features figures visiting the sick and sheltering the homeless. The top panel shows feeding the hungry and thirsty. The three bottom panels feature figures clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned and burying the dead. Be sure to check out a close up to see some of that incredible detail. The only problem with a work of art like this is that its location makes it nearly impossible for anyone to enjoy it.
