The Favorite Meeting Spot by Dennis Roghair
“The Favorite Meeting Spot” is a 2005 chainsaw-carved sculpture by Dennis Roghair. Standing next to the Corn Roast stand at the Minnesota State Fair, it depicts a girl sitting on the edge of a dock eating an ear of corn with her dog and a boy diving into the water.
Curiously, the State Fair Tree Sculptures guide (PDF) describes the sculpture as the girl eating corn “while a young boy springs from a corn husk below.” That’s quite a fanciful image, but I’m not seeing it. The favorite meeting spot as the dock at the lake makes a lot more sense than the giant corn husk that a boy springs out of. Maybe that’s where the girl got her sweet corn.
