Artist Jane Frees-Kluth’s 2001 sculpture “The Gardener” is an homage to Bill Kirchner, who along with his wife Garnett were Richfield civic leaders, gardeners and travelers. The Kirchbak Sculpture Garden was created in honor of them (and named for them and business partner Jerry Jerpbak). The Kirchner’s grandson posed for “The Gardener,” even wearing his grandfather’s gardening clothes for authenticity.

A sculpture of a gardener in a sculpture garden starts to get a little meta, especially when you see a real gardener tending the plants around the bronze gardener. But at least it’s thought provoking.
