Native American artists Bill LaDeaux and David Estrada created this sculpture — “Mitakuye Owasin,” Sioux for “All My Relatives” — that’s located at the Simon’s Ravine Trailhead in South St. Paul. The work commemorates the 38 Dakota who were hung in Mankato at the end of the Dakota War of 1862 in what is still the country’s largest mass execution.

I like the material — it’s not your standard carved rock sculpture. It’s got a unique look, especially as the sun glints off the metal.
