X with Columns by Sol Lewitt
One of my favorite sculptures at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is “X with Columns” by Sol Lewitt. It has this classic architecture feel and all the column spaces are perfect for jumping into and striking a pose. The grass is even worn away around the base of the sculpture form so many people climbing up and jumping down.
It’s just a solid collection of straight lines and right angles, just asking for a curved face to step in front of the background, enter the frame and complete the picture.
In the last ten years the trees have grown up quite a bit around “X with Columns” making it an even more secluded and mysterious piece.
