This bronze figure of German poet, philosopher and dramatist Johann von Schiller stands in Como Park in St. Paul. It was created by Ignatium Taschner and dedicated in 1907.

Located in the Sunken Garden at the Como Park Conservatory, “Play Days” is a 1925 sculpture by Harriest Frishmuth. Much like “Crest of Wave” — the other Frishmuth sculpture in the Conservatory — “Play Days” is also a nude probably modeled after the dancer Desha Delteil.

The nude figure has a certain grace and carefree joy — as if the warmth of the Conservatory compared to the frigid Minnesota winters outside was so inviting she stripped her clothes and started dancing. Or maybe not.

Norwegian-born artist Jacob Fjelde created this bust of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and a Norwegian fraternal organization gave it to the City of St. Paul in 1907. If a statue could ever claim Norwegian citizenship, this one has a shot. Henrik was on display in Como Park until the bust was stolen in 1982. In [...]
