St. John the Baptist De La Salle is the patron saint of teachers. He was a French priest and education reformer in the 1600s who dedicated his life to teaching the children of the poor.

Local artist Karen Sontag-Sattel created “Bell of Two Friends” in 2001. It sits on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis and was commissioned by Ibaraki City, Japan (Minneapolis and Ibaraki City are sister-cities).
